Appreciating - Titli (2014)

Covering the harsh reality of the underbelly of the capital of the country which is mostly overlooked, Titli is an emotionally powerful and gripping tale of the youngest member of the car-jacking brotherhood, Titli, who wants to break free from his gangster family and start his life as a law abiding citizen. He finds a soulmate in Neelu, when he is forced to marry her to involve her in the family crime business.
Written and directed by Kanu Behl, and co-produced by Dibakar Banerjee Productions and Aditya Chopra under the banner of Yash Raj Films, the film is a neo-noir drama film which came in 2014, featuring actors Ranvir Shorey, Amit Sial, Shashank Arora, Lalit Behl and Shivani Raghuvanshi in the lead roles.
Titli is not any other social drama Hindi film; it is emotional and touching, with serious themes, including the highly dominated patriarchal society of the country. It is character-driven, with a complete non professional cast, yet you will find yourself completely lost in the film from the very start, when Titli is being assaulted by his violent brothers. Each character seems real and easy to empathise with. It is finely balanced between social realism and the struggle against society to live peacefully.
The name of the protagonist Titli is symbolic of his struggle in life against his family to fly for his dreams; a butterfly who wants to break free from the bars and fly free also struggles against the society who doesn't let it.
Everybody should watch Titli over and over again until they realize the reality of the struggling class of the underbelly of Delhi, and until they empathize with them. It is available on Amazon Prime.
