AR Rahman: My Ultimate Inspiration
If I could listen to any one artist all my life, inarguably, it would be AR Rahman.
I usually pass off as a pragmatic and highly rational being who's driven more by logic than emotions. But when it comes to ARR and his music, I fail miserably. I just meltdown. And, interestingly, I let it be. I in fact like it. A lot.
I listen to him most when I feel stuck, depressed, anxious, or don't feel like anything. He heals me from within. He‘d be so humbled to know the impact that he's making. His voice is soulful, unlike other artists who are great at singing but that's just it. Listening to him feels divine. You feel at peace. It's like, everything will be alright because the universe is filled with goodness and humanity is just a part of it. Everyone is a good person. Everything is good. Everything happens for a good reason. You feel thankful. You start blieving in love, all over again. Goodness exists, love exists, magic exists- miracles happen! You are great. He is great. God is great. Like literally!
AR Rahman is not a musician, he is music. He is art. He is therapy. He is the change I’d want to bring about in the world. He is power.
It makes me recall that one time when I was listening to his music and doing poetry at the same time because I was writing a poem for him; it was more like a tribute to him I'd want to give if we ever met. It’s funny, how one person can inspire you in such a way that you write something down for them for four pages without any pause, and that four pages too when I deliberately stopped myself.
Anyway, thank you for making me feel alive when I’m at my lowest, ARR. More power to you!
